Do you have a scottie dog?

I have a 4 year old scottie called gypsy. she’s really calm and hardly ever barks, I was just wondering if anyone else is a scottie owner and is their dog calm too? maybe its a scottie trait.

I’ve shared my home and heart with 3 Scotties. Training is the key with these dogs. My current Scottie is 3 and I’ve done months of training with her. She is calm, but knows when it is the appropriate time to run, frap and go into hyper play mode. She barks when there is a reason. OK, well we are working on not barking at bicycles, but she is a work in progress–she’s been with us less than a year.

Many dogs adjust to their environments and can learn what is expected from them. Many of the small terriers are not known for their calm demeanor. Scotties are aloof and standoffish so they may choose not the interact with other people or dogs, therefore, giving a calm appearance. If your Scottie is a calm dog, be glad–you did a good job training her. Enjoy your Gypsy–I bet she is cute!

Edit: where are you people getting comatose Scots from? This isn’t supposed to be a calm, docile dog. I got my current Scottie at 2 1/2 and she tried to eat my house! I’ve busted my butt training her and she is the best dog I could ask for, but it took lots of hard work. This is a smart, clever dog that needs challenges so she won’t be destructive.

I.S. love your comment about not wanting the Scot that ate the blanket. It is equally as important to know what you DON’T want in a dog as to what you do want.
